Together with Northeast Denver Housing Center, Groundwork Denver was awarded a Solar America Initiative grant from the Department of Energy. The grant is provided us with technical assistance to address some of the challenges of and take advantage of the opportunities of installing photovoltaic panels on low-income rental housing developed using the low-income housing tax credit program. We worked with a team from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) to identify the best properties within NDHC’s Whittier Affordable Housing Project to install 75 kW of photovoltaics. In the meantime, NREL experts are also helped us determine the best way to capture utility company rebates and federal tax credits for the project.
